According to the peculiarities of information perception and processing, people can be divided into 3 categories:

Auditories,

Visuals,

Kinesthetics,

But despite the fact that there are only 3 channels, the person reproduces and processes the experience in four ways. An internal dialog or digital channel is added, which works with words and numbers. Conventionally, we can add a fourth category:

Digitals

It must also be understood that although there are people who use almost a single channel, there are very few. And if they only use one system, this is completely defective. They do not perceive many absolutely incredible and amazing things that are around. Alas, this happens apart from their conscience. Most of them use several channels of perception quite effectively, and yet only one which they prefer more. They spend more time there, think better, and this way of perceiving for them seems to be more important than the others. But that does not at all mean that, for example, the Visual does not hear or feel anything. It only means that vision is more important to him.

The most common type is Kinesthetics (approximately 40% of the population), followed by Visuals (approximately 30%), followed by Digital (approximately 20%) and Auditories (approximately 10%).

Auditories

Auditories are the people who mainly receive information through the ear canal. It is a very rare type of people. They have incredibly strong hearing and excellent memory. During communication, they do not have to look at or touch the interlocutor, the main thing is to hear them. The Auditories literally blooms when he speaks. He can remember and reproduce any of your stories down to the smallest detail. But in any case it is impossible to interrupt him, because he can be silent and will not speak to you anymore. Outwardly, the Auditory may seem like a stubborn and arrogant person. But this impression is misleading, Auditories, as a rule, people are very sincere and attentive, always ready to listen and help with advice. The world of Auditory is a world of sounds, rhythms and melodies. For him, there are no boring questions and locked topics. They live in conversation, in sounds, in melodies and rhythms. They’re just looking for a reason to speak. If you ask him about himself, he honestly starts telling you how he is doing. Auditory become excellent psychologists, excellent musicians and speakers. The direction of gaze of the Auditory is along the center line. The Auditory sits upright, but with a slight forward tilt. Auditories tend to have well-developed breasts because they breathe fully. Outwardly, they are rarely obese. Auditories love dialogues that can be heard in themselves and that will be told to others. In addition, the content does not play a particular role, the main thing is the voices that sound inside and wish to go outside. And the voices of Auditories are generally very expressive, deep and melodic. The Auditory is characterized by the use of words related to auditory perception (listen, discuss, loud, silent, silence, euphonic …).

Auditory memorizes by listening everything that he has already discussed. The Auditory gets easily distracted by sounds. It is desirable to gift to the Auditory something that he could listen to with pleasure. Auditories love by ears.

Visuals

Visuals are people who “see” the world around them, who perceive most of the information through vision. Visuals are good storytellers. They can imagine an episode and describe it. In general, the visual system is very successful for inventions and dreams. They plan just as well. By organizing finely their work, these people are able to properly distribute tasks among employees. They cannot function without preconceived diagrams. To get started, they must clearly imagine a strategy. They like visual aids and well-designed relationships. If something needs to be explained to the Visual, it is advisable to show graphs, tables, figures, images and photographs simultaneously. In extreme cases, you need to show with your hands what size it is and where it is. The Visuals themselves, when they gesture, show with their hands where the images are, at what distance and in what direction. We shouldn’t say no to them and yell at them. For the Visuals, it is important that everything is BEAUTIFUL! The Visuals are ready to wear something spectacular and brilliant, even if it is uncomfortable. This does not mean that they own uncomfortable clothes, just appearance is more important to them. And it’s highly unlikely that you’ll see him in dirty, wrinkled clothes. It seems that the way a person perceives the world around him is related to his appearance? However, psychology is a generous science, and in particular, on surprises … For Visuals, vision and hearing are only one system. If they don’t see, it doesn’t matter how they hear.

The Visuals generally have a loud voice, a watchful gaze, gestures are horizontal. During the communication, the Visual looks into the eyes and demands it from the interlocutor. Visuals, as a rule, people are lively and impetuous. While chatting with the interlocutor, they record all of the interlocutor’s movements, facial expressions, postures and gestures. His principle: “He doesn’t listen to me, because he doesn’t look at me.” The Visuals feel very well the personal space that surrounds them, and if you suddenly invade it, they “close” immediately, crossing their arms and legs. Visuals do not tolerate touch, much less cuddling. Often, they give the impression of snobs, although it is far from being always the case … They are generally seated upright, and they also stand. And if they bend, they look up. Straightened shoulders, rounded chest. Breathing is carried out from the top of the chest. When communicating, the Visuals mainly direct their gaze upwards.

In addition to the behavior, the Visual can be recognized by: a slim figure, straight posture, thin line of lips, loud voice.

Their usual grimace is slightly raised eyebrows as a sign of attention. In a conversation, they keep such a distance in order to better distinguish the interlocutor. Therefore, they usually sit at a certain distance to increase the field of vision or, on the contrary, to see better.

In his speech, the Visual uses names, verbs, adjectives, mainly associated with vision (look, observe, as you see, at first glance, the image, transparent, bright, colorful …). The Visual remembers what he has seen, memorizes images (symbolic thinking is well developed). Noise hardly interferes with the Visual. It is preferable to gift decorations and furnishings to the Visuals. Visuals love by the eyes.

Kinesthetics

Kinesthetics feel the world around them and perceive most information by smell, by tactile perception, through movement, etc. They don’t know how to hide their feelings and their eyes give out. Therefore, they often lower them. The answers to the questions are simple and straightforward. They make decisions based on their feelings. Kinesthetics hate uncomfortable clothes and prefer comfort in everything. They perceive the touch better than the words and they like serious discussions. They seem to accidentally touch your hand during a conversation, remove hair from your face and are very interested in how you feel during a visit. When speaking, they lean towards the interlocutor, often tend to touch him, so that they are very close to him. In their inner world, they leave only the “chosen”. Kinesthetics are people of action. Kinesthetics must taste, touch, smell, move and smell. It’s their way of seeing the world and they don’t understand anything in a different way. However, it does not mean that Kinesthetics are very mobile people, their main tool of perception is the body and the way is movement and action. Even if they read the instructions, they should immediately try what is written there, in practice, otherwise they simply will not accept the text. They don’t understand how to do something before doing it themselves. Plans, dreams and wool-gathering – words that are completely incomprehensible to them. Kinesthetics literally pass everything through themselves, so they can barely bear stress and uncomfortable situations. That is why it is difficult for them to say no. Kinesthetics are people who value convenience, comfort, and are mindful of their own bodies. Their bodies are quite dense, their lips are wide, full of blood. Kinesthetics are generally seated with a forward tilt and often bend over. They speak slowly, the voice is often dull and low. They wear what is comfortable. And what is the appearance – not so important. They like to be near the caller to touch. In books and movies, they are mainly interested in intrigue, and they omit elegant dialogues and colorful descriptions as unnecessary. For them, “just a story” seems to be meaningless – there is a need to do something with it, and if there is nothing to do, then there is nothing to say. Kinesthetics generally plan very badly, because there is no way to invent something in this system. Therefore, they prefer to get involved in a fight first and sort it out later. Relationships for them are above all a kind of action. Kinesthetics are gentle people, prone to fullness, with pink skin. By temperament, they are cheerful and with a good sense of humor. They move smoothly and breathe at the bottom of the chest.

The vocabulary of Kinesthetics consists essentially of words which describe feelings or movements (touch, grasp, soft, warm, flexible, good perfume …). The Kinesthetic remembers the general impression. He memorizes, by moving, by feeling, by smelling. He remembers everything with his body, his muscles – the body has its own memory. It is difficult for Kinesthetics to focus their attention; it’s easy to distract them with anything. The direction of sight of Kinesthetics is down.

It is best to make them a gift that will give them a pleasant feeling. Kinesthetics love by the hands.

Digitals

Digital – the perception of information in them occurs mainly through logical understanding, using numbers, signs and logical arguments. He is a very special type of people. Digital is more focused on meaning, content, importance and functionality. As a little boy said: I liked garlic after I discovered how useful it was. The digital channel is responsible for speech control. The Digitals, as detached from real experience – they think rather by the words themselves, and not by what is hidden behind the words. For Digital, written or spoken, so to speak, is a reality. If for everyone words are access to experience, for Digital, all experience is made up of words.

The problem with the digital system is that it is not able to modify the information by itself without accessing other channels. The words only turn into words, and it all comes back to the starting point. Digitals have a pinched and straight pose. They practically do not gesture, because it does not carry any information for them. Digital people speak pretty monotonous – they don’t need intonations and they barely perceive them. They keep the distance, look either at the interlocutor’s forehead, or over their heads. Distance, total control, nothing superfluous … They don’t like to touch. Digital people don’t sympathize, they understand. Digitals are similar to Kinesthetics – a dense body, dense lips (although usually pursed) … In general, they come from Kinesthetics. If what a person feels, these emotions he is experiencing, are too painful for him, one way to get rid of them is to enter into reasoning. Digitals are able to compose written documents so that there is no unnecessary interpretation, so that each word stands in its place. The digital channel is exactly responsible for formulating sentences. Digital will be delighted with gifts of functional value.

Auditories, Visuals, Kinesthetics and Digitals

Auditories, Visuals, Kinesthetics and Digitals can’t always understand each other well. This is precisely due to the differences in their dominant perceptual systems.

After you understand who is in front of you, it’s easier to communicate …

And in view of the above, it is very important to communicate with a person in “their language”:

  • with the Auditory using variations of voice (volume, pitch, pause), reflecting the rhythm of speech (especially the head) with the body at a speed characteristic of this type of perception;
  • with the Visual using words describing the color, size, shape and location, highlighting various points or aspects of the content with the color, recording the actions, using diagrams, tables and supports visuals;
  • with the Kinesthetic using gestures, touch and the slow speed typical of thought processes, remembering that the Kinesthetic learns from muscle memory.

In general, psychologists have proven that discreet and “relaxed” touches during a friendly conversation contribute to much more pleasant memories of that conversation later.
